house of dust

There is a house at the end of the street -- An empty house.
It is not a magnificent house -- maybe it once was, but the house has forgotten how to be so, and the people who lived inside are long gone. There is mold in the walls, gouges in the wood floors, and dust, plenty of dust. Sometimes, during a thunderstorm, the television will flicker on and off, but other than that, the house is silent.
There is a bag of broken light bulbs on the kitchen floor. A pan for cooking brownies is still in the dish drainer, waiting to be put away.  The incorrigible fan still spins on, the almost unnoticeable breeze

"tell me something honest," she says, eyes closed to the blood-painted skies, because if she looked, she'd be reminded of the flesh along her thighs and how scars take so long to heal when you've cut so deep. she drags calloused fingertips over bone-popped-flesh, wondering if anyone's noticed how skinny she's become.
"honest?" he replies, his eyes focused more on the way she looks like some sort of broken-down angel at dusk than the sunset – how her once-rounded cheeks flush scarlet and how her lips glisten with sunlight-dust, little fragments of beauty cling soul-searching.

As long as it's at lunch, you can stop by without talking to Ginger. You can help out in the garden (according to Jordan), but they won't let you do anything else. Gingerbitch decreed that we aren't allowed to volunteer or anything because we "don't do any work."
